History ~

Alameda Babe Ruth has been providing baseball programs for the youth of our city for almost 40 years.

Alameda Babe Ruth supports 4 baseball programs:  The American League (primarily 13 yr. olds), the National League (14/15 yr. olds), the International League (a preseason league for 14/15s not playing High School ball), as well as the Senior League, comprised of the following tournament teams: Navigators and Merchants (ages 18U) and the Black Sox (age 19U).

BABE RUTH LEAGUES

Alameda Babe Ruth Baseball provides two competitive leagues for players 13 through 15 years old.  Each league plays by essentially the same rules as Major League Baseball, including the same size field, which has dimensions of 90 feet between bases and a pitcher's mound 60 feet from home plate.

  • American League - Made up of ALL 13-year olds, as well as any 14/15-year olds who may require further baseball skill development.  This league provides an effective transition to Major League Baseball rules that are not used in Little League (e.g., taking leads, pick-offs, dropped 3rd strikes, etc.).

Because most players in the league attend Middle School, the regular season begins in early April.  The season ends near the end of June.

  • National League - Made up of players who are 14 or 15 years old on July 31, 2003.  The National League begins its season after the High School baseball season ends, about the middle of May.  The Babe Ruth season ends at the end of June.

  • International League (new in 2005) - The International League is comprised of 14-15 year-old National League Babe Ruth players who are not playing high school ball. The league is made up of several Alameda squads and similar teams from Washington Manor, San Leandro and Fremont.

The International League schedule begins after Easter and runs through mid-May. After International League play has ended, players return to their National League teams for the regular Babe Ruth season.

Senior League

The Alameda Senior Babe Ruth Season begins immediately following the High School Baseball season. We have selected coaches, scheduled games and prepared for a season of baseball fun for the players. This year, Senior Babe Ruth will be a slightly different format than most might expect. In order to keep our players competitive, Alameda Baseball will be competing with the best of the best in a 18U and 19U League and playing in tournaments throughout the region. What you can expect is a travel team format that will showcase player talent. With a limited number of players per team, we will allow for flexibility based on availability (e.g., vacations), etc.

You are being contacted because your player has participated in the past or expressed interest in participating in the program being offered. We will be holding a parent meeting on Sunday, May 2, at 7pm at the IAL Hall at 2712 Encinal Avenue in Alameda . We would like all interested parents to attend.

If your son will be participating, please come to the meeting with a copy of their birth certificate, the completed Registration/Consent to Emergency Treatment Form, and a check made payable to Alameda Babe Ruth.

Preliminary information is as follows:

  • Teams will be - Black Sox 19U and Merchants 18U
  • Each team will carry approximately 20 players
  • Each team will play approximately 40 games in the season
  • Headfirst Gamers Wood Bat League is the League for the Black Sox (19U)
  • CABL is the League for the Merchants (18U)
  • Scheduling for the games this season are approximately 99% complete
  • Cost for each player will be $500.00
  • Manager and Coach Selections have been made

Team Tryouts are tentatively scheduled for June 5th and 6th dependent upon the NCS schedule

Please Note: The next Babe Ruth Board Meeting is May 18th where approval of Managers and Coaches is expected. Preliminary Managers and Coaches include Erik Schuler (19U Manager), Chuck Moseley, Kip Nelson, Eric Kondo, Nick Cawthon, Joseph Republicano, Cody Nelson, and Tom Bennett (part-time). Also Joe Pearse (18U Manager), Adrian Martinez, Ricky Rodriguez, Gary Longoria, and Matt Bucci. In addition, the coaching staff for the teams will be rotated so that players of ALL teams receive the benefit of being coached by the talent in the coaching pool (College- level coach and play experience, no son playing, etc.).

Please let me know of your interest as soon as possible by email or phone. Please call me and let me know if your son is already committed and planning on playing this season, or if you are committed and can't make it to the meeting, or if you are not at all interested. Our intent is to keep players in our community and surrounding areas involved in competitive baseball and playing with others they frequently associate with. We are locked into the respective leagues for both the teams (18U and 19U). We are anticipating the possibility of a third 18U team and that is the reason we would like to be advised of your interest level as quickly as possible.

Thank you in advance for you support. We hope you will choose Alameda Baseball.
